Abraham van Zanten was a son of Nathan van Zanten and Elizabeth Peper. He was just like his sister Veronika a gifted musician. According to tradition Abraham played already at a young age in the concertgebouw orchestra.

On 25 May 1943, Abraham van Zanten wrote this note: ‘Dear sir, The morning has broken. This afternoon my wife and I must report to the authorities and probably depart immediately for Westerbork and then Poland. I may have a slight chance of being assigned to an orchestra in Westerbork. I will never forget you. Best regards from my wife and myself, Bram van Zanten’
