Barend Hendrik Opdenberg was the son of Samuel Opdenberg and Anna Koekoek.

Barend Hendrik Opdenberg studied medicine in Leiden, where he sat for his medical finals on 16 February 1934. He lived and practised medicine as a GP at 2 Grondheerendijk in Rotterdam. In October 1940 he was appointed GP at the psychiatric institution Het Apeldoornse Bos. Barend Hendrik Opdenberg was married to Louisa Henriette van Son. The couple had two children: Eli Geert (born in 1939) and Gerard Robert(born in 1941). Their last address was 52 Turein Notheniuslaan in Apeldoorn. The two sons were killed in Sobibor on 28 May 1943.
