The Police Commissioner of Haarlem requested that Joseph Philip Leonard de Vries, living in Haarlem, be located, detained and brought to trial. He was suspected of having changed his place of residence without the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding.

During the war Joseph Philip de Vries (Jopie) went into hiding at a different address from his parents. His parents were betrayed and arrested. Some time later also Jopie's hiding place was betrayed.
