Melanie Seraphina Hoffmann was a daughter of Israel Hoffmann and Betje Nort. She married Hartog Cohen from Venlo, a son of Salomon Cohen and Johanna Eijsman, on 25 September 1890 in 's-Hertogenbosch. The couple had seven children together, of whom Henri passed away alreday on 13 September 1904, only 11 months old. Their other children were Mozes (married to Rosaline Vega), Israel (married to Marie Louise Jeanne Constant), Henrica, Melanie Seraphina Johanna (married to Dirk Tijssens), Wilhelm and Jacob, who both lived with their mother.
