About Anna de Rooij-Polak

Anna Polak was a daughter of Simon Polak and Bettje van Rhijn, a family with in total nine children. One child died in infancy, only 1 year old and one child has survived the Holocaust. All other children, namely Salomo, Philip, Hartog, Harmannus, Bertha, Carolina and Anna self, have been killed in the Shoah. Both her parents died before the war.

Anna was born in the hamlet of Schoonoord, in the municipality Sleen (nowadays municipality Coevorden) and married 4 December 1918 in Hoogeveen the tobacco manufacturer Hartog de Rooij, a son of Ephraim de Rooij and Antje van Os. The couple had a son Ephraim, who lost his life during the Shoah somewhere in Mid Europe.
