According to tradition Simon Weijl was gifted. He went to grammar school in Zutphen and then studied law in Amsterdam. Simon tried to flee from the Netherlands. He was caught the day after his birthday at Lille, together with all other Jewish men in that train. The cause was someone with false documents who had a stroke. He was imprisoned in Lille, was sent as a criminal offender to Westerbork and from there to Auschwitz.
