Sara de Hartogh came from a family of five children. Two of them survived the war. She was also called 'Zus' (sister) by a sister.

During the war, Sara de Hartogh moved from Amsterdam to Friesland, where she went by the pseudonym of Suze van Bodegraven. In November 1943 Sara de Hartogh was killed by the resistance near IJlst, because she was threatening to betray resistance members.
