Meijer Barber was a son of Manus Barbuer and Flora van Velzen. As widower of Hendrika Maria Jobst, he married 23 June 1926 in Amsterdam Elfriede Wilhelmine Wopker, a daughter of Heinrich Wopker and Friederike Scheer. She and both their children have survived the war.
Meijer Barber was born in a family of elven children; one brother died at young age and one sister survived the war. His other siblings, Judic, Sientje, Elisabeth, Marianne, Sara, Salomon, Frederika and Isaac have been killed all during the Holocaust.
