Margarete Dieckhoff owned a sowery in Germany that had a specific clientele, well-to-do ladies. In 1939 she fled to The Netherlands. On 13 June 1939 she was registered in The Hague as a refugee. On 24 February 1942 she was registered in Gouda as the inhabitant of Van Swietenstraat 3. Margarete Dieckhoff worked as a housekeeper in Gouda. The family for which she worked had papers to flee to Switzerland. Margarete could join them, but most likely didn't dare to.
After her first employer left, Margarete Dieckhoff worked with a family where she was also in hiding. A doctor gave her false personal papers, her new name was Maria Landsheer.
On 12 July 1943 Margarete Dieckhoff was arrested at her hiding address. She was brought to the office of the SD by car. After some time she was transfered to a policestation and from there onwards to transitcamp Westerbork.
Addition of a visitor of the website
The police commissioner of Gouda requested that Margarete Dieckhoff, residing in Gouda, be located, detained and brought to trial. She was suspected of having changed her place of residence on 20 October 1942 without the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding.
