Jacob Menist was a son of Hartog Meijer Menist and Ester Jacob Blitz. He married Rosette Schaap in Amsterdam on 17 July 1901, a daughter of Hijman Meijer Schaap and Judith Agsteribbe. The couple had four children, namely Esther, Hijman, Hartog and Salomon. Their son Hijman, unmarried, passed away at age 31 in 1935 and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery of Muiderberg whilst their son Hartog, his wife and daughter have survived the Holocaust. Thei children Esther and Salomon have been killed in the Shoah.
Jacob's wife Rosette Schaap deceased 5 September 1938 and was interred two days later in the Jewish Cemetery at Muiderberg. Jacob self has been registered in transit camp Westerbork on 11 November 1942, deported to Auschwitz on 16 November and upon arrival there on 19 November 1942 immediately killed.
