Hartog Schuitevoerder was the son of Jacob Marcus Schuitevoerder and Judic Salomon de Vries. He married Mina Papegaaij in Amsterdam on 25 January 1882. She was the daughter of Benedictus Papegaaij and Vrouwtje Koster. The couple had six children: Jacob, Benedictus (passed away in 1937, married to Marianne Halberstadt), Marcus, Joseph, Salomon (who died only 1 year old) and Jetje.
From his son Marcus, who survived the war, two of his five children (Hartog's grandchildren Jetje and Barend) were killed during the Holocaust.
