Marcus van der Sluis was a son of Joseph van der Sluis and Esther Spaanbroek. His siblings were Simon and Elisabeth, who have survived the Holocaust, Klara, Gerrit, Ephraim, Jaantje, Sientje, Isak, Leentje and Benjamin.
Marcus married Sara Schrijver in Amsterdam on 20 August 1930, a daughter of Juda Schrijver and Schoontje Gobes. Together they had five children.
