Victor de Groot was a son of Zacharias de Groot and Jetje Vleeskruijer. He married Mietje Blitz in Amsterdam on 19 October 1932, a daughter of Samuel Blitz and Anna de Swarte. The couple had three children: Zacharias, Meijer and Henriette.
