Ruben Soesan was a son of David Soesan and Rachel Benedictus de Vries. He married 16 March 1887 to Rachel Kat, daughter of Abraham Kat and Eva Biet. The couple had twelve children together: Eva, Fenna, Johanna, Abraham, Esther, Klaartje, David, Salomon, Benedictus, Engelina (who passed away in 1918), Sara and Rebecca.
On 9 April 1923 Rachel Kat passed away in Amsterdam and Ruben Soesan remarried there on 21 February 1924 to Dientje Polak, daughter of Hijman Polak and Schoontje Roe.
