Sientje van Esso was a daughter of Abraham van Esso and Betje Kroon. Her father worked in the silver industry and had a shop in the Touwstraat in Meppel. Later the shop moved to the Grote Kerkstraat. Sientje remained unmarried and lived with her mother at the Emmastraat in Meppel. Her father died in 1923. Sientje was an actress and played with the Meppel dramatic society TAVENU. She played, among other things, in 'Filmmaniakken’ and ‘De bruiloft van Kloris en Roosje’. Sientje and her mother were taken out of their home on 3 October 1942 and brought to Westerbork.
