Mietje Emden was a daughter of Joost Emden and Jansje Canes. This couple had eight children, of which seven die not survive the Holocaust: Fijtje, Benjamin, Hijman, Abraham, Clara and Vogeltje. Mietje married in Amsterdam on 15 January 1908 to Henri Manheim.
