Samuel Schuijer was a piano teacher. According to tradition he had played in the orchestra of emperor Frans Jozef in Vienna. He taught the piano to, among others, one of his granddaughters, presumably Rachel, who had to walk from Scheveningen to the Laan van Meerdervoort during the war since she was not allowed to take public transport anymore. Samuel Schuijer refused an offer to go into hiding.
