Arend (Arie) Philip was a son of Lewie Philip and Cornelia de Vries. He was a butcher and owned a butcher's shop on the Goudse Singel 28 B in Rotterdam when he married for the first time. He divorced Leentje van Dam. From this marriage he had four children, of whom two survived the war. His second spouse survived the war.

Arend Philip was deported on 28 October 1944 from Auschwitz to Stutthof and on 17 November 1944 from there to Hailfingen, an auxiliary camp of concentration camp Natzweiler-Struthof.
