Biography

About Isaac Voorzanger

Isaac Voorzanger was a son of Joseph Voorzanger and Heintje Springer. He married Jansje Park on 5 May 1909 in Rotterdam, a daughter of Jozef Park and Sara Polak. The couple lived more than one time in Belgium, in Borgerhout and Antwerp, but also in Rotterdam.

Isaac and Jansje had nine children; in Borgerhout Henrica (1910) and Josephus (1912) were born; In Rotterdam Anna (1915), Emanuel (1917), Abraham (1920) and Selina (1921) and later in Antwerp Bernard (1927) and Elisabeth (1930).

Most likely, Henrica, Anna and Bernard have survived the Holocaust, however not the other six siblings Abraham, Josephus, Selina, Esther, Elisabeth and Emanuel. They have been deported from Mechelen to Auschwitz (Josephus to Mauthausen) in various transports and were killed in the Shoah.

Isaac Voorzanger has been deported too from Mechelen to Auschwitz with Convoy VIII, which left 8 September 1942 and arrived in Auschwitz 11 September 1942. It is known that this convoy with 1000 persons, has made a stop in Kozel where 281 men were forced to step out of the train in order to do forced labor in the surrounding labor camps. It is not known whether Isaac Voorzanger belonged to this Group or that he has been killed immediately upon arrival in Auschwitz. His certificate of death, made out by the municipality of Berchem on 28 January 1953, states his official date of death as 11 September 1942.

Isaac Voorzanger was born into a family with five children, namely Rosette, Esther, Jakob, Salomon and Isaac self. Only Esther, Salomon and Isaac have been killed in the Shoah. Presumably, the others have survived the war.
