Betje Barnstein was a daughter of Meijer Barnstein and Grietje Kooker, a family with eleven children, among them she herself, Hartog, Engeltje, Esther, Eva, Mina, and Maurits. Jetta, who was married to Hartog Zwalf, has survived the Holocaust as the only one of the children. Three children has already died at a very your age.
Betje married 6 November 1913 in Zaandam to Samuel Witteboon, son of Simon Witteboon and Schoontje Uijekruijer.
After the passing of Samuel Witteboon on 4 February 1935, Betje Barnstein remarried in Amsterdam on 28 July 1937 to the widower of Elisabeth Spijer, Hijman Presser, son of Isaac Presser and Elisabeth Smalhout.
