Philip Sweijd was a son of Jacob Sweijd and Reintje Philip Vos. He married in Amsterdam on 8 May 1890 to Sophia de Beer, who died during childbirth of her 3rd child on 7 November 1897. The couple had three children: Jacob, Isaac and Rosette, who married, aged 27, in Zaandam on 31 December 1919 Zacharias Hoepelman, a son of Joseph Hoepelman and Elisabeth Agsteribbe.
After the death of Sophia de Beer, Philip remarried on 25 February 1898 to Mietje de Beer.
