Hijman Emmerik was a son of Jacob Emmerik and Branca Fortuin. He married in Amsterdam to Heintje Ensel on 18 December 1912, a daughter of David Ensel and Hanna Fransman. The couple had eight children; besides the here mentioned six children, there were also Jacob and Hanna, who was married to Maurits Barzilaij.

Hijman Emmerik and Heintje Ensel both attended the wedding of their daughter Rebekka Emmerik to Leendert Brilleman. The marriage was performed at Westerbork transit camp on 5 July 1943. The parents signed the marriage certificate.
