Biography

About David Straus

David Straus got married on 28 January 1904. The couple had one child. His wife and his child both have survived the war.
In 1938 the family fled to the Netherlands. On 8 August 1938 David Straus and his wife were registered in Rijswijk. From 28 February 1942 they lived at the Van Itersonlaan 3a in Gouda. On 23 April 1943 his wife and his child received the call-up to report to Vught concentration camp. But they did not arrive there and they probably have gone into hiding. David Straus did not receive a call-up to go to Vught. It is possible that he also went into hiding because his house at the Van Itersonlaan was taken over by the NSB mayor of Gouda.
Somewhere in November 1943 David Straus was deported in an ambulance from Reeuwijk near Waddinxveen to Westerbork by order of the Sicherheitspolizei.
