About Jacob van Gelderen

Jacob van Gelderen, also knowns as Jacques, was an architectural draughtsman (1909-1911) and later an architect in Rotterdam. He was a non-resident member of the Amsterdam society Architectura et Amicitia (1909-1911). One of his designs was for the conversion of a former warehouse into the ‘chevra shul’ Beth Tephilla Hammerkaz in Rotterdam (1937) and the drastic renovation of the synagogue on Botersloot in Rotterdam, including the addition of a new administrative wing (1938-1939). In 1913 Jacob divorced his first wife. In 1918 he married Betje Cats.
