Elise Kempenich was Philip de Sterke's widow. He was a salesman in manufacturing goods. Philip died in Rotterdam in 1935. Elise lived in a nursing home on the Westzeedijk called Pro Senectute. One of her two children, her son Henri Leonard was also killed.
