Izaak van Dam was a son of Simon van Dam and Martha Rosenbaum. He married Eva Nathans in Haren (Groningen) on 3 September 1919, a daughter of Simon Nathans and Betje de Jong. Izaak and Eva had five children together of whom two children died in infancy before the war, not older than 2 years. His other three sons were Martijn Bertus, Siemon Machiel and Bernard Max.
Izaak, his wife and children have been deported from Camp Westerbork to Auschwitz on 28 August 1942 where his wife Eva and youngest son Bernard Max were killed immediately upon arrival there on 31 August 1942. Izaak self and his son Siemon Machiel lost their lives on 31 December 1942 and his son Martijn Bertus was killed on 7 February 1945 in Gross Rosen.
