Clarisse Dorothea van Dien was the daughter of Gaïm van Dien and Sara Philips. She married Victor Emanuel van Vriesland in 1889. He died in 1935. The couple had three children, among whom Rosina Jacoba.

Clarisse Dorothea van Vriesland-van Dien died on 12 February 1943 at the age of 75 in camp Westerbork. She was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Assen on 17 February 1943.
