About Carla Veffer

Carla Veffer was deported to Sobibor in June 1943 from Vught via Westerbork on the so-called children's transport. She was 15 years old when she died.

De Moei writes: 'Carla Veffer is 15 years old, she has been in Vught since 12 February 1943, together with her parents and her older sister Lotty. During the name-call, Carla and her mother hear their names called out: they have to leave. Carla's father is allowed to go with them, but he does not have to. Her mother prefers him to stay in Vught, with Lotty. Lotty considers accompanying them, but her parents refuse. They decide that father will come along, to help Carla and her mother. Lotty stays behind in Vught on her own. "It means that at least someone will be here on our return", mother says'.
