Max Wertheim died on 21 October 1943 in Westerbork transit camp and he was cremated on 22 October 1943. The urn with his ashes was placed on the Jewish cemetry in Enschede at the Noord Esmarkerrondweg, field C, row 5, grave nr. 3.
