About Bettje van Zuiden-Polak

Bettje Polak, known as Bep, was the daughter of Harmannus Polak en Rosette Gersons. She married Barend van Zuiden in Hoogeveen on 4 September 1929, a son of Samuel van Zuiden and Betje Stern. As fas as have been researched, Bettje and Barend had no children.

Bettje Polak was deported from camp Westerbork to Auschwitz on 6 November 1942, and upon arrival there on 9 November 1942, immediately killed. Also her husband Barend van Zuiden was deported at the same time with his wife However, Barend was selected to do forced labor and eventually he lost his life in January 1944 in the Extern Kommando Faulbrück, a sub camp of Gross Rosen.
