Essiena Cohen was the widow of Mozes Vegt who had died on 24 February 1940 in Zwolle. She lived in the Walstraat 23a in Zwolle.

Essiena Cohen was a daughter of Nathan Abraham Cohen and Biena Abrahams van Zijl. She was married to Mozes Vegt in Amsterdam on May 17, 1893. He was a son of Hartog Vegt and Lena van Creveld. The couple had ten children. Seven of them died at a young age. Two others, Nathan en Aron, died in the war. One child survived.
