About Nico Louis Herschel

Nico Herschel was a civil servant. In the fall of 1942 he was discharged as a result of the policy of the German occupators. Nico Herschel subsequently taught book keeping at the Jewish Lyceum in Zwolle. When all the pupils were arrested, Nico Herschel moved to Enschede and became vice principal at the Jewish Lyceum there. When all the pupils were arrested in Enschede, he and his wife were forced to move to Amsterdam. Their last address was Tugelaweg 110.

Before they were deported the mother of Nico Herschel gave a silver bookmark with the initials N. H. (Nico Herschel) to a boy-next-door, to ensure he would never forget them.
