About Heinz Erwin van Mindeno

In 1937, Heinz Erwin van Mindeno became a junior member of the Vereenigd Amsterdamsch Schaak Genootschap (the Amsterdam chess association) and managed to attain the title of 'first-class' player (the national level just below that of master).

Heinz Erwin van Mindeno, an office clerk, was a son of merchant Jacques van Mindeno and Felicia Selly Hirsch. He was married at Westerbork transit camp on 19 April 1943. His wife survived the war.

In an attempt to gain postponement from deportation, Heinz van Mindeno married in camp Westerbork. His bride survived the war, despite being deported.
