About Eliazer Hagenaar

Eliazer Hagenaar was the son of Emanuël Hagenaar and Anna Delden. Eliazer married Grietje van West on 15 June 1932. In 1939 they separated, but on 1 October 1941 they were remarried. Eliazer and Grietje had five children. In 1940, Mijer and Emanuel stayed at a home for Jewish children, the Berg-stichting. Their last address was Rapenburg 92-96 in Amsterdam. Eliazer was deported to Mauthausen under a Schutzhaft order. Schutzhaft (literally ‘protective custody’) was a legal doctrine on the basis of which a person arrested could be held in custody for an unlimited period without any form of trial.
