Roosje Hamel was a daughter of Israel Meijer Hamel and Heintje Mozes van der Kar. She married in Amsterdam Samuel Lopes Cardozo on 4 January 1900, a son of David Lopes Cardozo and Judith (Judik) Engelander.
Roosje Hamel has been deported on 1 September 1942 from Mechelen to Auschwitz with Convoy 7 and she has died there on 4 September 1942, according the Antwerp Court Certificate of Death of 23 July 1958). Her latest known address in Antwerp was Korte Ruusbroecstraat nr. 47, where she lived together with her husband.

By establishing the date of death of Roosje Lopes Cardozo-Hamel the official date is maintained as stated after the war by the Dutch Department of Justice.
