Jacob Wessel was a son of Willem Wessel and Elizabeth Hamel. After his mother died, his father married Judith Klerk.

Jacob Wessel and H.J.W. Masseling had together a firm (KvK Amsterdam nr. 15540), called: Masseling & J. Wessel. This firm was domiciled at the Jodenhouttuinen 55/57 in Amsterdam and was closed down in 1932. One could hire there diamond-cutting mills.
