Samuel van Collem was a son of David van Collem and Rachel Olivier. He married Grietje Moffie on 5 June 1901 in Amsterdam, a daughter of Barend Moffie and Klaartje Kijl.
The couple had four children: besides the here mentioned David and Willem there were Benjamin en Rachel who lived at other addresses.
Samuel van Collem had also four other siblings, who have been killed during the Holocaust: Hartog, Sara, Jetje and Levie. His sister Leentje died in 1930 already and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen.
