Manus Groenteman was a son of Mozes Groenteman and Rachel Moffie. He married on 8 March 1916 to Wilhelmina Helena Arpels, who passed away on 12 September 1930 during childbirth of her son Salomon. Togehter they had eight children: Rachel, who died before she was 1 year, Mozes, Barend, the here mentioned Izak, Sientje and Salomon . Their 2nd daughter Rachel and son Pinehas suvived the Holocaust. Manus Groenteman remarried on 3 Sepetember 1941 to Engelina Sara Roeper, daughter of Elias Roeper and Evaline van Gelderen. Manus and Engelina had one daughter together, Lydia.

Manus Groentman sold fish on the street market. His mother was "Brutale Coba" a well known pert vendor of fish. The children grew up in orphanages in Amsterdam and Utrecht and with family.
