About Hijman Slap

Hijman Slap was counted among the so-called ‘diamond men’. These men, to which also his son Gerrit Slap and relatives Elias and Hijman Slap belonged, had turned in a lot of diamonds to get a sperre. Because the diamond industry had to go on, first only the women and children were sent to Westerbork as ‘hostages’. Later in 1943 the men followed. In 1944 all of them were deported to Bergen-Belsen. The children stayed there. The men were in the group in 1944 that was called the ‘diamond transport’ and were deported to Oranienburg. Later the women were sent further and had to do forced labour in salt mines.
