Hendrik van Dam and Lea Cohen were married at Westerbork transit camp on 8 October 1942. He was a commercial painter by trade, and a son of the deceased Henderikus van Dam and of Betje van Gilpen. Lea Cohen was a daughter of butcher Herman Cohen and of Martje van Wijngaarden. The father of the bride attended the marriage ceremony; he signed the marriage certificate.
Rosina Slager-van Dam, a sister of the bridegroom, and her husband, Heiman Slager, brother-in-law of the bride, attended as witnesses and signed the marriage certificate.
