Samuel Barendse, a son of Isaac Barendse and Leentje Park, was married on 23 April 1941 in Amsterdam to Rebekka Scholte, a daughter of Israel Scholte and Marianne Koekoek. From this marriage, their daughter Helena was born in January 1942. Samuel had two children from a previous marriage, which ended in divorce.
