About Abraham Maijkels

In August 1941, four obituaries were placed in Het Joodsche Weekblad for Abraham Maykels Hzn. One was signed on behalf of the Limited Partnership H.B. de Beer Ao. 1770, of which he was the oldest founding partner.
The same edition of the weekly contained an obituary. From this: 'As well as dealing with the many concerns of his own company, he always managed to find time as required to do constructive Jewish work. He never recoiled from the difficulties he had to conquer, showed a great sense of initiative and he lived to witness his greatest ideal - the foundation of a Jewish higher secondary school - become reality.'
Abraham Maykels Hzn. was active in many Jewish associations (including governor of Hachnosas Ourechiem, Beis Jisroeil, Assistance for poor Orphans, Central Organisation and the Zadok Rosa Bonnist Foundation) and for the Jewish community. In 1916, he became a member of the Church Council. Later, he was appointed trustee. On 29 June 1941, he became a member of the Central Committee.
