Biography

About Abraham Prins

Abraham Prins was the son of Samuel Prins and Hientje Vleeschhouwer. He was a sports teacher and a physiotherapist. He earned extra money as a civil servant at the Rijkspostspaarbank (a state-run savings bank). In March 1932 he married a non-Jewish woman. Because it was a mixed marriage, he did not have to report for deportation during the war.
One day, Abraham Prins cut through a park to catch a train. Jews were prohibited from entering the park, and an overzealous officer gave him a ticket. When Abraham Prins reported to the police station later, as ordered, he was detained and put on a transport to Westerbork. He died in Auschwitz.
A grandson of Abraham Prins made a documentary about this incident, entitled Het misdrijf van Abraham Prins. An excerpt from this documentary can be seen on the website of IKON [a broadcasting company].
