Mozes Schelvis was a son of Salomon Arie Schelvis and Esther Nebig. He married in Amsterdam on 5 November 1879 to Marianne Wurms, daughter of Mozes Abraham Wurms and Judic Stokvisch. The couple had nine children: Salomon, Judic, (who was married to Jacob Vischjager but already passed away in 1913), Esther, Rachel, (who was married to ((478855|Isaac van Kreeveld but divorced from him in 1922), Arie, Abraham (who was married to Kaatje Leuiken but died in 1928), Sara, Benedictus (who passed away at a very young age) and Jesaija.
