Israel Cohen was a son of Hartog Cohen and Melanie Seraphina Hoffmann. He married Marie Louise Jeanne Constant, a daughter of Jacques Matthieu Constant and Anna Marie Depouchon, on 10 December 1920 in Hoensbroek. The couple had seven children together who all have survived the Holocaust.

Israel (Juul) Cohen lived with his catholic wife Marie Louise Constant and his seven childrne at Groenestraat 290 in Nijmegen. He was arrested on 10 May 1942 and on the 17th of July deported to Auschwitz. There he would have been killed on 27 July 1942 but that date is not sure, because a priest from Doornenburg, who was also in Auschwitz and who has visited later the family, had met him and spoke with him in Auschwitz in September 1942.
