Simon Monnikendam was a son of Abraham Salomon Monnikendam and Schoontje Wijnberg. He married in Amsterdam on 12 May 1895 to Caroline Kesing, who passed away on 13 March 1935. The couple had seven children, of which two were stillborn and one died in childhood. One of these children who did not survive the Holocaust was Abraham.
On 17 July 1935 Simon married again to the widow of Sander Tak, Mary Reiss from London. She survived the Holocaust.
