Hartog Canes worked for the postal services. He was married and lived in Amsterdam. He and his wife had two children. Hartog Canes helped Jews in hiding. On 20 February 1943 he was arrested in Amsterdam and held at the house of detention on the Amstelveenseweg. Hartog Canes was deported to Auschwitz via Vught concentration camp.
