About Betty Friederika Glashouwer-Maarzen

According to tradition Betty Friederika Maarzen was a pretty girl with a friendly character who loved to play the piano. She was 23 years of age when she got acquainted with her non-Jewish husband, a farm labourer. She married on 11 February 1942 in Amsterdam. She moved with her husband to Woudsend. She adapted there well, was friendly to the other villagers and quickly understood the Frisian language, even if she did not speak it. In November 1942 she was taken away by the police and brought to Sneek because she was Jewish. From there she was deported to Auschwitz via Westerbork. Her husband survived the war.
