About Willem Blom

Willem Blom was a son of Mozes Blom and Chrisje Gokkes. He married in 1908 in Winterswijk. He was a butcher of profession at that time.

Willem Blom and his wife had ten children. Two children died when they were young. In April and October 1939 Willem Blom send his wife and five children to the United States. They would survive the war. Three children escaped Nazi extermination by going into hiding.

Willem Blom was killed for having perpetrated an act of economic sabotage against the Nazis. In May 1942 he died in camp Buchenwald. His brave and moving letter of protest is kept at the Netherlands Institute for War Documentation in Amsterdam.
