Isaac Alter was the son of Eliazar Alter and Caroline Witstein. In 1892 he was married to Kaatje Alter, who died in 1913. Isaac Alter married Elisabeth Poons, daughter of Samuel Poons and Aaltje Hartog, in 1921.
